FAQs

What is a Medical Pedicure and how does it compare to a Pedicure?

Medical Pedicures are performed in a sterile environment with packaged sterile tools opened in front of you. Performed on a dry foot by a qualified senior podiatrist, who will expertly and knowledgably deal with your medical foot issues like corns, callus, verruca, ingrowing toenails, fungal infections and nail issues. If you are experiencing foot problems your podiatrist will diagnose and tell you the underlying cause to prevent it or know how to best maintain it. The treatment focuses on practical problem-solving podiatry with an expert aesthetic finish and glossy polish-free healthy nails. By contrast, a Pedicure is usually performed by a pedicurist on a wet foot, often with sanitized tools and will focus on aesthetics only, usually ending with polish.

Do I have to remove my nail varnish before the appointment?

Yes please. Part of your treatment involves an assessment of your nail health, that way any issues can be caught and dealt with proactively during the appointment. If you wish to keep your nail varnish on just let your podiatrist know at the beginning of your appointment and they will work around the varnish.

What is the difference between Podiatry and Chiropody?

Both of these titles are used to describe someone who is able to 'diagnose and treats disorders, diseases and deformities of the feet' as determined by the Health Care Professions Council. Many foot experts use the title they trained under, podiatry being the more modern of the two terms. Amber trained as a podiatrist and hence uses that title.

How do we treat corns and callus?

Where there are areas of high friction corns and callus develop and they cause pain. During the treatment the corns are expertly enucleated  and callus removed using a scalpel blade. It doesn’t hurt as corns and callus are made from dead skin. During the appointment your podiatrist will look at the underlying cause of the corn/callus and try to prevent it coming back.

I have an ingrowing toenail, how can you help?

Your ingrowing toenail with be expertly and gently dealt with during your appointment. Sole Revival Podiatry uses a range of techniques and will pick the one suited to give you the best results and for future prevention. We do not perform permanent ingrowing toenail surgery at Harrods but if surgery is indicated your podiatrist will refer you on to a trusted podiatric surgeon.

Do the treatments hurt?

Most people find their podiatry treatments an enjoyable experience. Occasionally and in certain conditions people might experience some temporary discomfort in order to relieve their wider pain.

What if my foot hurts and it's not a skin or nail issue?

We can help. When booking ask for the Biomechanical Assessment. During that 45 minute appointment your foot, posture, range of motion and gait and issue will be examined. You will receive a diagnosis, treatment plan and exercise regime and if indicated will be 3D digitally casted for bespoke orthotics that sit inside your shoes and change the way your foot interacts with the ground, improving and preventing a range of conditions.

How do you treat Verruca?

We use a non-invasive Zinc Compound called Verrutop to dehydrate the verruca or wart (hands can be treated too). This is the most successful topical treatment currently on the market with a 90% success rate after 6 treatments. A package is available that includes a Medical Pedicure with verruca/wart treatment plus 5 further check-ups with verruca/wart treatments.

My heels are hard and cracked, what can you do to help?

We will remove all the hard skin away from your heels, glue any cracks and then file your heels before a slathering of organic foot balm for a perfectly smooth and soft finish and advise you how to prevent the hardness coming back.

I’m embarrassed about my feet; will I be judged?

There is no need to be embarrassed, we just want to solve your foot problem. Our aim is to move you from embarrassment or pain to comfort and pride.

I have a fungal infection in my nails, what treatments do you offer?

Superficial fungal infections are common because they flourish beneath nail varnish. During your appointment your Sole Revival podiatrist will assess the health of the nails and treat accordingly. Often thickened nails look similar to fungal infections and can be drilled to normal depth restoring the normal look of the nail. If there is an infection, it’s often possible for Amber to remove all the infection during an appointment, if the infection is too advanced Amber uses a range of techniques including topical medications to treat the fungal infection as well as helping you to clear fungal infection from your environment.
